President Tinubu Appoints Nakore, Kodage, Bunkure to Lead Federal Universities of Education
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointments of new leadership for two prominent federal universities of education, according to a press statement from the State House.
Engr. Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore has been named the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano. Alongside him, the President appointed Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kodage as the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
Engr. Nakore, a distinguished Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as the Executive Secretary of the Rural Electricity Board in Jigawa State.
In a separate but related development, President Tinubu also approved the appointment of Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure as the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State. A renowned academic specializing in science education, Prof. Bunkure currently holds the position of Vice-Chancellor at Saadatu Rimi University of Education in Kano.
These appointments are for institutions that were recently upgraded from colleges of education to full-fledged universities between 2022 and 2023.
Per the institutions’ governing laws, Engr. Nakore’s term as Pro-Chancellor will span four years, while both Vice-Chancellors will serve a five-year term.
The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, in a press release dated September 3, 2025.
