Incumbent member of the federal house of representatives in Oyo constituency, Prince Akeem Adeyemi has won in a legal tussle instituted by one of his opponent, Surveyor Oyekalu in the february 2023 general election.
The Election Petition Tribunal for the National Assembly dismissed petition brought before it by Oyekalu Oyegbami against the declaration of Akeem Adeyemi in the 2023 election of Afijio/Atiba/Oyo East/Oyo West federal constituency on Thursday.
Candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), had instituted a case against Akeem Adeyemi, All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) at the tribunal over alleged omission of logo and disenfranchisement of his supporters on the election day.
Oyekalu, in the petition alleged that the deliberate omission of NNPP logo and name on the ballot papers used at the Oyo Federal Constituency election of 25th February, 2023, disenfranchised voters from participating efficiently in the election.
Adeyemi polled 34,822 votes against the petitioner, Oyekalu who had 1,468 votes in the election result released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The three panel members of the tribunal affirmed that the petition lacks merit, not suitable for election petition tribunal and a pre-election matter.
The tribunal therefore ordered the fine of five hundred thousand (N500,000) against the petitioner.
