The Iganna Kingdom has strongly condemned recent comments made by media personality Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat on his radio program, Kokoro Alate, aired on Agidigbo 88.7 FM. The remarks, which referenced the death of renowned Yoruba musician Ayinla Adegator, have been described by the kingdom as both unfounded and disparaging.

In a statement issued by Sodiq Yusuf, Media Aide to the Sabiganna of Iganna Kingdom, Hamzat was accused of portraying Iganna as a “hub of witchcraft and wizardry.” The statement emphasized that these claims are not only deeply offensive but also misrepresent the true heritage and values of the Iganna people.

The kingdom highlighted its traditional oriki (praise poetry):
“Iganna ti o loṣo, ti o laje, omori odo ni won fi lurawon”—which translates to Iganna that does not use witchcraft, that does not use sorcery, it is with the pestle’s head that they beat each other. This, according to the statement, reflects a community known for its valor and integrity, not for spiritual malice.

Leaders of the Iganna community consider Hamzat’s remarks an insult to both the family of the late Ayinla Adegator and the entire kingdom. Sodiq Yusuf criticized Hamzat for failing to uphold journalistic ethics, particularly the need for thorough fact-checking and fairness. The statement noted that Hamzat did not consult any authoritative sources, including the Sabiganna of Iganna, before making his claims public.

The Iganna Kingdom has demanded a public retraction and apology from Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat to both Ayinla Adegator’s family and the Iganna community within seven days. The statement warned that failure to comply would be regarded as a continued affront to a legacy that deserves reverence.

Ayinla Adegator, a celebrated figure in Yoruba classical music, remains a source of pride for the Iganna Kingdom. Community leaders insist that his memory and legacy should be treated with the utmost respect.
