Fubara Reveals Purpose of Visit to President Tinubu at Aso Rock

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Monday paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to discuss the political situation in the state and chart a path forward.

The meeting followed the recent lifting of the emergency rule that had plunged Rivers into months of political deadlock.

Speaking after the closed-door session, Governor Fubara explained that peace has returned to the state after his prolonged feud with his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

“As far as I’m concerned, we have made peace. Fubara and his principal are working together,” the governor said, referring to his reconciliation with Wike.

He described his visit to President Tinubu as both a courtesy call and an opportunity to seek guidance on governance matters.

“Ideally, it’s proper for me to see Mr. President and to tell him that I’m back, and I’ve also resumed my responsibility as the governor of Rivers State. It’s not much. It’s a father-son discussion, telling him thank you, and the areas where, if at all, there should be any issue for him to guide me properly so we don’t get in any situation of crisis,” Fubara stated.

The emergency rule in Rivers was declared in March following violent clashes between loyalists of Fubara and Wike, which crippled governance and heightened political tension across the state.

President Tinubu lifted the emergency rule on September 17, restoring the offices of the governor, deputy governor, and the House of Assembly.

With normalcy gradually returning, Governor Fubara assured that his administration is now focused on stability, cooperation, and delivering good governance to the people of Rivers State.
