University Unions Draw Battle Lines With Edo State Govt Over Unlawful Proscription
Members of the Senior staff association of Nigeria universities, SSANU, the non Academic staff Union NASU and the National Association of Academic Technologists NAAT Ambrose Alli university Ekpoma chapter have vowed not to resume duty even if the national bodies called off the lingering strike because of the unresolved workers faceoff with the Edo state government.
The unions which disclosed this at the end of the south south zonal emergency meeting held in Ekpoma say they will continue to function as unions because Governor Godwin Obaseki lacked the power to proscribe them on campus.
The south south zonal emergency meeting of SSANU,NASU and NAAT of Ambrose Alli university, Ekpoma was held at the play ground of a guest house in Ekpoma because they have been barred from entry into the schools where their secretariats were by the Edo state government.
Chaimen of the various unions from other universities in the south south region were on ground to solidarize with Their AAU counterparts over the prescription of the unions by the Edo state government which they say was null and void.
The unions say Some of the reasons why workers of Ambrose Alli university Ekpoma will not resume even when the national strike was called off include non payment of outstanding salaries, reduction of monthly subventions to the school from 270,000,000 Naria to 41,000,000 among others.
The various groups say they will never be intimidated by government to resume when the issues that led to the strike have not been addressed.
SSANU, NASU and NAAT AAU chapter have been on strike before the national bodies embarked on their nation wide industrial actions.
