The Tasks Before The New Acting Chairman Of Oyo APC
Oyo state All Progressives Congress (APC), has confirmed the appointment of Alhaji Moshood Olaide Abass from Igboora in the Ibarapa Central Local Government as Its Acting Chairman.
The position of the Chairman of the Oyo state chapter of the APC became vacant as a result of the passing away unto glory of the former Chairman, Barr. Isaac Ajiboye Omodewu.
Omodewu was buried in his home Town of Otu in the Itesiwaju Local Government of Oyo state on Friday, 13th of September, 2024.
Until now, Alhaji Laide Abass was the Deputy State Chairman of the Oyo APC and by virtue of the Constitution of the Party, the right person to fill the vacuum created through the demise of Omodewu.
Alhaji Moshood Olaide Abass is a veteran politician, a seasoned Progressive, highly principled and incorruptible individual.
He brings to the table a wealth of experience which is very crucial in resolving the many issues faced by the Party in the state.
Having said that, the new Acting Chairman has his work well cut out.
Until his last breath, the late Isaac Omodewu was still working on fostering unity within the critical stakeholders in the Party and that is exactly the first challenge before the Igboora born new Acting Chairman.
The flames from the Congresses of 2022 which eventually spilled over to hurt the Party during the 2023 gubernatorial election are yet to be fully extinguished.
Flowing from that is the neglect of the Oyo state chapter of the Party by both the Government and the Party in Abuja.
I will not talk too much about this developments because, regarding the issue of unity, a lot of the stakeholders are seriously committed to peace now more than ever, though, there are still some who have not shifted grounds.
I also believe that Alhaji Moshood Olaide Abass, as a veteran and a respectable Elder is more than equipped for the tasks of galvanizing the Elders to take matters up with Abuja at both the Government and Party levels.
Baba definitely has so much in his plates and I am sure Party stakeholders know that we have no time to waste.
I pray that he receives the support of all the stakeholders in the task of giving us one united APC in Oyo state and ensuring that we get the deserved respect from Abuja.
I have said it times without number that we have no business being in the opposition in Oyo state.
The only way we will get out of the present situation that is unbefitting of our status is to come together and unite in purpose against the PDP and Governor Makinde who has kept poaching from us at will.
I don’t know how to explain the situation we found ourselves.
We should be giving Governor Seyi Makinde political tutelage but here we are, been pushed aside by him.
We have a very crucial by election ahead of us in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
It is an election we can not afford to lose to the PDP.
Yet, it is an election, which for me, will give us a tough time because there are issues beyond our control at play.
What do I mean by that?
Except we want to deceive ourselves, Governor Seyi Makinde and the PDP will definitely come to the Campaign grounds to incite the voters against us, leveraging on the hardships in the Country.
We must prepare ourselves for the baptism of the fire of propaganda , half-truths and outright lies from the Governor and his Party.
We must therefore think of how we will ensure that we take the narratives away from the Federal and bring it back home.
It is not impossible but it is difficult when we are doing that and some stakeholders go about singing the praises of the Governor on Radio and public spaces.
The only way we can honor the hard work and the memories of Omodewu is for everyone to rally round the new Acting Chairman and ensure that we set this Party on the path of redemption.
I wish Alhaji Moshood Olaide Abass a successful tenure.
SOLA ABEGUNDE.
