The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Ibadan Branch, has declared unwavering solidarity with the SSANU chapter of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) over the recent arrest and detention of its union leaders.

In a strongly worded solidarity statement signed by the branch chairman, Comrade Agbaje M.A., the association described the detention of the FUOYE union leaders, Comrades Faleye Benjamin, Ademola Mutiu, Oyelude Yekeen, Aluko Ayomikun, and Nwokeke Barnabas as “unjust and a clear affront to workers’ rights, industrial peace, and the sanctity of social dialogue.”

The Ibadan branch commended the decisive intervention of the National Vice President (West), Comrade Abdulsobur Olayiwola Salam (PhD), and the National President, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, for their prompt action that helped secure the release of the detained officials.

The statement also appreciated the solidarity support extended by sister institutions, Ekiti State University (EKSU) and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), describing their action as a true demonstration of union unity and strength.

Equally, the union acknowledged the intervention of the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, whose swift leadership response helped to de-escalate what could have developed into a major industrial face-off.

“SSANU IAR&T condemns unequivocally the unjust circumstances surrounding the arrest of our comrades, which stands as an affront to the dignity of labour and the principles of justice,” the statement read.

Reaffirming its commitment to fairness and justice, SSANU IAR&T declared its full support for the FUOYE branch and vowed to remain united in the ongoing struggle to protect workers’ rights and uphold union integrity.

“United we stand, divided we fall,” the statement concluded.
