A Saki born activist and legal practitioner, AbdulWaheed Lawal has replied Governor Makinde’s aide, Moses Alao, demanding for transparency, accountability and equity.
AbdulWaheed Olatunde Lawal is a Lawyer and Political Activist from Saki town, Okeogun zone in Oyo State.
The response which surfaced on social media and made available to reporters is coming hours after Governor’s aide, Moses Alao responded to the critique of Mr. Sola Abegunde against the government of Governor Seyi Makinde.
AbdulWaheed Lawal in his response said, “Governor Seyi Makinde’s lopsided focus on Ibadan’s development at the expense of other regions is alarming. Moses Alao’s defense and attack on Hon. Sola Abegunde’s criticism raises concerns about fairness and equity.
“Neglecting areas like Okeogun, Ibarapa, Oyo, and Ogbomoso is unacceptable. If Alao would not talk about the neglect of Orelope and abandonment of the reconstruction of Saki/Ogbooro/Igboho road where he hails from, does he expect Hon. Abegunde to keep quiet?
“What’s more? The governor at the final burial ceremony of Chief Koleoso in Saki recently gave reasons why he abandoned road projects in Saki to religious and political factors. According to him, he alleged that people of Saki played religious politics and that they didn’t give him enough votes. The governor tied the abandonments of provision of amenities to the governor’s voting pattern disappointment.
“I say with due respect, that denying amenities based on voting patterns is unconstitutional, undemocratic, and impeachable. Section 14(1) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution guarantees equal protection under the laws. Favoring one region violates this right,” he added.
Speaking further, the legal practitioner said, “Alao’s piece praises Ibadan’s modernization, but Abegunde’s article, “Makinde’s plethora of debts: Lest Oyo become another national embarrassment,” validly critiques the governor’s focus.
“We demand transparency, accountability, and equity in resource allocation.
“Let Moses Alao give us regular updates on development projects and advise his boss that Hon. Abegunde’s critiques are constructive and necessary for accountability.
“Moses Alao will do well by also letting Governor Makinde know that it’s time to reassess priorities and address regional disparities. The people of Oyo State deserve better. Inclusive development, not selective progress, is the way forward.
“We all must rise up and advocate for governance that serves all, regardless of voting history.
“The present crop of legislators in the state assembly have no liver to summon the Governor for accountability. If they try it, they will be sacked like the local Government Chairmen. Let’s mobilize for the right calibre of people in the House of Assembly come 2027 to ensure future governors are held accountable,” Lawal advocated.
