“Restoration of Rule of Law at Dawn” Oyo Federal Commissioner Congratulate ALGON Over Supreme Court Ruling
The federal commissioner representing Oyo state under the Revenue Mobilization Fiscal Commission, Bimbo Kolade, has earlier today, congratulated the ALGON over the Supreme Court ruling. He said: “I am glad this tortuous journey has ended in favour of our great Party.
Bimbo Kolade described the Apex Court ruling as an affirmation of the people’s will as expressed through their votes in the 2018 Local Government elections in the state.
The Supreme Court today delivered judgment on the case brought before it by the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) of the previous administration under the leadership of Abass Aleshinloye against the judgement of the Court of Appeal which favoured the Governor Seyi Makinde-led government.
The Apex court, in its judgement, noted that the tenures of the sacked Council Chairmen and Councillors have expired but all outstanding salaries and allowances must be paid with immediate effect.
The Court also fined the Oyo State Government a sum of N20 million for perpetrating illegality.
The Former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, also described the victory of the ALGON as the final restoration of the people’s mandate. Although we had expected that the Supreme Court would allow the elected official to return back to office and enjoy the two years they were unjustly denied. It’s our hope that the court will one day set the local government free from this unjust act by the state government.
“I wish to appreciate the leadership of the ALGON for their tenacity to keep climbing, courage to keep fighting, determination to withstand all odds and the depth of resilience during this period.”
“I also congratulate the leaders and members of our Party (APC) for this victory as it again established the growing popularity of the party.
Long live APC!!!”, he added.
