Residents Protest Amotekun Brutalization In Oyo, Seek Makinde’s Intervention To Appoint Complaint Board
Some traders of Akesan market in Oyo on Wednesday protested an attack on one of the trader, Azeez Adebayo by the State Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun attached to Oyo East Command.
The traders on Wednesday converged at the palace of the Bashorun of Oyo where they lamented over the situation and seeking the Oyo State government’s intervention.
The protesters accused the Amotekun Corps of humiliating the innocent citizens in the community most especially the market premise on Tuesday night.
SpyGist gathered that the victimized trader was at the market around closing time which was supposed to be 7:30pm when one of the Amotekun slapped him and seize his purse which contains an amount close to sum of eight hundred thousand naira (₦800,000) with one iPhone 13 charger and bunch of key.
An eyewitness who identified himself as Tunde Salako said: “The Iyaloja of the market was at the scene where the issue transpired, no doubt she was the one who masterminds the incident because it was not even up to the usual time we do close when the officers closed the gate and started humiliating those who were at the market.”
He added that “After beating the victim, the Amotekun officer took his bag and didn’t return till they left. Unfortunately, we saw them this morning when they said they co me to arrest the victim again, that’s why we have gathered together to resist the oppression against our colleagues to avert future occurrence .”
