Yesterday, 21st of November, 2024. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state handed over the Eruwa Farm Settlement, 4,000 hectares of Land to some yet to be identified foreigners.
The arrangements are shoddy. Details of the deals are kept secret.
Whether it is a lease or an outright sale, only the Governor, the new owners and perhaps, Debo Ogundoyin knows.
The Eruwa Water Works is situated within the Eruwa Farm Settlement and I’m sure that it has been captured within the 4,000 hectares handed over by the Governor.
Sadly, Debo Ogundoyin, while celebrating the act of the Governor on Facebook quoted 3,000 hectares.
That small goof should tell any right thinking person that there is a lot of deceits going on. ( People Deceiving People). Just like the acronym for their Party.
At any rate, I don’t know whatever called for celebration in what happened in Eruwa today.
The Eruwa Cashew plantation located at New Eruwa is also gone.
Sold out to the Governor’s Chief of staffs.
The Governor didn’t leave Eruwa today without making further jests of us.
He ” graciously” announced the release of # 2 billion Naira for Contractors handling the Ido/Eruwa Road project.
Jests, I said. Yes. Mockery describes it better.
The same Governor Makinde, some days ago, during the Budget presentation ceremony said he had approved the release of #2 billion for the Commissioner for Works for the same purpose.
I still have the video of that program.
Secondly, Governor Makinde himself, during the said program, owned up for the first time that he actually awarded 12 kilometers out of the 48 kilometers of the total stretch of the said Road which he said would be ready for commissioning by December 2023!
So, except one is gullible, what is in the Governor’s statement that calls for excitement?
Only God knows what Governor Makinde thinks of us in that area.
I am equally surprised that he forgot to talk about his promises of the release of funds for the reconstruction of the Ipin Bridge which he said he would do ” the following day”.
That following day is almost three weeks now.
Thankfully, however, from unexpected quarters, Ibarapa East does have some things to cheer about.
The member representing Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, Eng. Remi Oseni has commenced rehabilitation of some Roads within Eruwa and Lanlate.
As I write this piece, the Road from Isaba junction, passing through Ebenezer Baptist Church, Aborerin, Eruwa, to Gbolagunte junction is being done by Eng. Remi Oseni.
Similarly, Contractors are on site working on the Road from Lanlate Old Garage to Itabo.
About four other Roads within Eruwa and Lanlate would be done.
A Federal Specialist Hospital would also be established in Eruwa as approval has been obtained for such.
It is unfortunate that the Speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin who is from Eruwa has neglected the access Roads within the Towns for about six years now.
The Roads awarded to his younger brother, Toyese Ogundoyin within Eruwa and Lanlate has been abandoned for years by the young man.
The fact that Governor Seyi Makinde has been holding on to the monthly Allocations for the 33 Local Governments is notoriously known to every member of the public.
The non release of the monthly Allocations for the Local Governments has rendered Local Government Chairmen inactive.
” Maalu ti ko ni iru, Olorun Oba lo nbaa le esinsin”. ( The cow that has got no tail could only depend on the benevolence of God Almighty to chase away flies).
Such is the case presently in Ibarapa East.
This are indeed interesting times.
While some sons and daughters of Ibarapa East are colluding with the Governor to sell our common heritage, someone from outside our Community is the one putting smiles on the faces of the citizens of Ibarapa East.
Like the Elders say, ” Ajumobi o kan taanu, eni ti Olorun ran si ni nii se ni loore”.
