Push Your Career; Do Not Hold Anybody Responsible
I think we (indigenous artists and upcoming artists) should know this.
I have witnessed a lots of rantings, and complaints that our people (the rich and influential ones) aren’t supporting us.
Who are the “our people”? Are their riches meant for us? What gives you entitlement to their influences? Are they the one that told you to choose the career? If NO, then why disturbing them?
Before I started PM RADIO ERUWA, I knew it would not be giving me money so early, this is why I built a source of income outside the media body. This means, I won’t be waiting for anybody before I do my thing because it’s something that makes me happy.
Many things happened that should have discouraged the movement and I could have stepped out if I started with the mindset of getting arms from rich or influential people.
Know why you started
Do not make it your source of income yet. Some of us want to start driving benz, want to start living a luxury life with the career that’s yet to mature, want to be known with little effort. No it doesn’t work that way, it’s not a magic.
Invest in it
Work on yourself, I meant work hard on yourself. Spend the money that’s meant for cloth on your career, push your presence, make research and believe.
When I was talking to a brother that sings about what he can do to be known, we discussed at length and I told him to make short recordings and boost on the internet. Social media is here to help us, with 500 naira or less you can boost a Facebook post in 24hours which is somewhat okay for a starter like you. Make a page and promote.
People rises from their hood but the cases are not always the same. Some will have to work hard on themselves if truly they want that career.
The truth is, your friends won’t repost your content, the rich ones won’t help you now, they won’t notice you now, they won’t want to be identified with you now, because they are yet to see meaning in what you do.
Put them aside and face your passion. Then, sit and watch your friends coming to you, and requesting for your content for a repost when they notice you are growing without them.
Work on yourself.
More to come.
