President Tinubu Tells Governors To Follow Exemplary Leadership Of Makinde In Oyo

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said other states in the country should follow the exemplary leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

He said this while commissioning the 76.7-kilometer Adebayo Alao-Akala Memorial Expressway in the state on Thursday.

President Tinubu who was represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima said posterity would be kind to the governor for the numerous projects he executed for the people in the state.

VP Shettima said, “Governor Makinde, posterity will be kind to you. This serves as an exemplary model for every state and every Nigerian who is committed to the development of our great nation.

“Most importantly, you have shown leadership; you have shown inclusivism by bringing the elder statesman, General Popoola under your banner. You have done a great deal of service to this nation.

“I have seen former First Ladies here. I have seen former deputy governors. This is what is called leadership: the ability to embrace all tendencies which is for the betterment of our tomorrow.”

“The level of experience of development in the society is directly proportional to the length and quality of its road network, and its all-round development.

“A new road such as the one we are about to commission has the potential to open up new areas of economic activities; increase agricultural production and accelerate urbanization process. Roads constructed to support commerce and agriculture inevitably enhances the standard of living of people they serve.

“Today’s event serves as a reminder that without a good network of roads, we cannot fulfill our promises to the people, nor can we sustain our democracy. The full participation of our remote communities in our nation’s development hinges on reliable network of roads we commenced on behalf of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

“The sensitivity of the Oyo Stae government to this reality and acknowledge their commitment to ensuring that the needs of people of the rural areas are as important as those of the urban centers.”

“The road we are about commissioning will not only be a link to other communities within the state but will also serve as a vital link to other geo-political zones in the region. This will navigate???? the economy to the surrounding markets; it will assist workers to get employment opportunities; students to have easy accessibility to schools, and the sick to the hospitals”.

“The economic agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is rooted in supporting each state of the federation in achieving its objectives and fulfilling our promises to the Nation. Oyo State owns a pivotal role in our nation’s economy and will always remain a top priority in our efforts to stabilize and promote unity and peace across the nation.

Governor Makinde, while speaking hinted that the ongoing 48km Eruwa-Ido to Ibadan road project would be completed in due time for commissioning as part of his commitment to improving the state’s infrastructural deficit.

In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Works, Professor Daud Sangodoyin, “The cross-section of the roadway consists of 7.3m carriageway, 1.5m hard shoulders on both sides of the carriageway, 1.Om x 1.0m open reinforced concrete lined drain at the township and settlement areas while earth drains were provided at the edges of the roadway in sections without township/settlement.

“The major features of the road include site clearing, earthworks (Cut-to-fill, borrow to fill, cut to spoil and removal of unsuitable materials), 1.0m x 1.0m open reinforced concrete drainage, box culverts of various sizes, retaining walls, embankment protection, sub-soil drainage and filter beds;
