Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK) has officially declared his ambition to contest for the governorship of Oyo State in the 2027 elections. The announcement was made during an elaborate event that also saw the inauguration of the AKK Aseyori Group across the 33 Local Government Areas of the state.
In his declaration speech titled “There is More to Be Done for Our People”, Dr. Kareem emphasized the urgency for transformative leadership and reiterated his commitment to addressing the pressing challenges confronting Oyo State.
“A spark remains in the depths of our collective soul—a flame that flickers with the hopes and dreams of our people. Yet, despite the resilience and determination of our people, systemic injustices and eroded trust have dimmed this light. But I believe there is more to be done for our people,” he stated passionately.
Dr. Kareem outlined his vision for Oyo State, highlighting the need for a multifaceted approach to governance that prioritizes education, infrastructure, economic empowerment, and the agricultural sector. He pledged to implement a state-wide transport network connecting all six geopolitical zones, ensuring equitable development and economic integration.
He further stressed the importance of revitalizing the educational system to inspire and empower the youth, transitioning from rote learning to a model that emphasizes leadership, creativity, and moral values. “Education must not only teach but inspire,” he declared.
The gubernatorial aspirant also spoke on the need to address the state’s infrastructural deficit, unlock its economic potential, and establish a governance framework rooted in transparency, accountability, and equity.
Dr. Kareem referenced his exposure to governance models in the United Kingdom and Australia as examples of systems Oyo State can emulate. He expressed his confidence in Oyo’s ability to replicate similar successes, noting, “Good governance is not a utopian fantasy but a realistic attainment when driven by leaders of conscience.”
In a call to action, he urged citizens to unite in redefining Oyo’s future, leveraging the state’s abundant human and material resources to create a sustainable and prosperous society.
“I am deeply humbled to present myself for service, guided by the fear of God, a commitment to accountability, and a determination to ensure that the people of Oyo State enjoy the opportunities they deserve,” Dr. Kareem concluded.
The inauguration of the AKK Aseyori Group marked the beginning of grassroots mobilization efforts across the state. With supporters from all 33 LGAs in attendance, the event demonstrated the broad-based appeal of Dr. Kareem’s vision and campaign.
