Okanlawon congratulates ALGON, hails Supreme Court for Upholding Justice

It was a good aura in an era where injustice has prevailed to hear the verdict of the Supreme court stating clearly that the decision of Gov Seyi Makinde to dissolve the elected local government chairmen and councilors in Oyo State “null and void”.

He said in his press release that he shares the joy of all the members of the association who almost lost hope in the unexpected move by the Oyo State government to breach the existing laws an action which could be seen as an abuse of power.

This victory further breathes hope in our democracy system. It is now clear that the decision to alter the functionalities and structures of local governments in Nigeria is not the call of the state government.

Okanlawon salutes the doggedness and the  unwavering commitment of the association which clearly has granted them this victory.
He noted that this victory will be documented in the pages of history and would serve as a caution herein to anyone who wishes to act against the law.

He mentioned that the members led by Prince Abass Aleshinloye have shown all democratic institutions the true essence of loyalty, commitment and unionism.

Conclusively, he advises leaders in all spheres of government to always consider the resultant effects of an action before embarking on it; he quoted an adage everyone grew to understand “look before you leap” he said that while condemning the backlash of the actions of the state government which resulted into a fine of N20million; an amount that would be paid from the coffers of tax payers in the state.
