Oba Ladoja Ascends Olubadan Throne As President Tinubu Declares Nigeria’s Economy Turned the Corner
The ancient city of Ibadan erupted in celebration on Friday as His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Sen.) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja, was officially crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in a grand ceremony at Mapo Hall.
The historic coronation drew dignitaries from across the country, including the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who used the occasion to deliver a message of hope on the nation’s economic outlook.
Addressing thousands of attendees, including former governors, traditional rulers, and political leaders, President Tinubu declared that Nigeria’s economy has turned the corner for good following his administration’s reforms.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel,” the President assured, while commending Nigerians for their patience, endurance, and sacrifices. He emphasized that the benefits of the reforms would soon be felt across the nation.
Oba Ladoja, a former Governor of Oyo State and long-time political ally of the President, received the Staff of Office and Certificate of Coronation from Governor Seyi Makinde.
Governor Makinde described the coronation as a unifying moment for Ibadanland, noting that it had resolved longstanding traditional disputes and ushered in a new era of peace and stability.
In his acceptance speech, the new Olubadan expressed gratitude to God, the kingmakers, and the people of Ibadan. He also acknowledged President Tinubu’s presence, describing it as a great honor to the throne and the city. Oba Ladoja pledged to uphold the trust and responsibilities of his new role.
President Tinubu hailed Oba Ladoja as a man of resilience and perseverance, praising his contributions to democracy and his distinguished political career. He described the new monarch as one of the rare leaders in history to ascend the revered throne of Ibadanland.
The President also referred to his attendance as a homecoming, underscoring his personal and political ties to Ibadan.
The coronation of Oba Ladoja marks a significant chapter in the history of Ibadanland, blending tradition, politics, and national optimism in a single moment of celebration.
