Lanlate College Unions Hail Governor Makinde’s Support, Seek Further Financial Intervention

The Joint Action Committee of the Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate, has lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his timely financial intervention that helped the institution offset salary shortfalls. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the three trade unions in the Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate, has expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his consistent financial support to tertiary institutions across the state.

In a statement jointly signed by Comrade Fadara O.O (COEASU Chairman), Comrade Tijani O.S (SSUCOEN Chairman), Comrade Yusuf L.B (NASU Chairman), and Comrade Fatai A.A (Local JAC Secretary), the unions commended the governor for his “special consideration and timely intervention” in approving salary augmentation for the months of May, June, and July 2025.

According to the statement, the intervention was a major relief that prevented the institution from implementing what it described as “amputated salary payments” during a financially challenging period.

“This commendable and highly considerate move by His Excellency was a significant one that bailed our acutely financially challenged institution out of possible truncated salary payments,” the statement noted.

However, the unions also drew the governor’s attention to a persistent shortfall in salary payments, revealing that the amount released for salary augmentation in September 2025 still recorded a deficit of over ₦11 million.

They warned that this shortfall could further worsen the situation in the current month, especially with the implementation of the 2025 promotion exercise.

“While we celebrate this critical intervention, we must also draw His Excellency’s attention to a pressing concern threatening full salary payment in Lanlate. The amount released for salary augmentation in September still recorded a shortfall of over ₦11 million,” the unions lamented.

In light of this, the JAC made a passionate appeal to Governor Makinde to consider an increment in the monthly subvention to the college to ensure prompt and complete payment of staff salaries.

The unions reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to supporting the governor’s vision of maintaining a stable academic calendar and building a competitive tertiary education system in Oyo State.

“We remain committed to supporting His Excellency’s vision for a stable academic calendar and competitive tertiary education system in Oyo State,” the statement concluded.
