Former Oyo State Governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, has strongly refuted claims by former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, regarding his alleged involvement in the unresolved assassination of former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige.
Ladoja, in his response, dismissed Akande’s allegations, insisting that he never obstructed justice in the case. He emphasized that his administration did not withdraw any charges and fully supported the prosecution, even up to the Supreme Court.
The controversy arose following Akande’s recent interview with veteran broadcaster Edmund Obilo in Ibadan, where he insinuated that Ladoja might have critical information about Bola Ige’s assassination. He further lamented that individuals who could have provided clarity on the matter, such as former Oyo State Governor Lam Adesina, had passed away.
Reacting to these claims, Ladoja firmly stated:
*”Chief Bola Ige was assassinated on December 23, 2001. I assumed office as Governor of Oyo State on May 29, 2003—18 months after his assassination. I did not withdraw the case, nor did my government. In fact, the case was prosecuted all the way to the apex court. Chief Akande lied against me. This is not the first time people have accused him of lying—Baba Ayo Adebanjo even said the same in his book.
We are all saddened by Chief Bola Ige’s death, and I was personally close to him while he was alive. His assassination remains a tragedy, and we are all concerned about justice being served.”
Ladoja further warned that unless Akande retracts his statement and issues a public apology, he would explore all possible actions, including legal steps, to address the matter.
