Isoko Youth Parliament Demands Compensation For Flood Victims From FG

A pressure group organisation, Isoko Youth Parliament, has called on the Federal Government to compensate people of Isoko to cushion the effects of the current flooding of its communities.

The call was made by the National Speaker of Isoko Youth Parliament, Ambassador Andrew Ajakpofo on Friday.

Not less than 60 per cent of Isoko communities are currently deserted due to the floods.

The National Speaker of Isoko Youth Parliament made the call through an official statement made available to journalist on Friday.

“The rate of destruction caused by flood in Isoko land is most unfortunate and calls for urgent government attention. We are not unaware that the DG of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had earlier raised an alarm that there will be flood in over 300 Local Government Areas of the country. Yet, the Federal Government decided not to take any step on the alarm that was raised which has led to the massive destruction of properties and death all over the country, most especially in Isoko land.

“We condemn outrightly the lackadaisical attitude of the Federal Government towards the wellbeing of the people which is a gross violation of the provisions of Section 14 (2b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

“While we call on the Federal Government and all relevant stakeholders to ensure that there is the provision of relief materials for everyone affected by the disaster, we want to note that this would not have happened if not for the recklessness of the Federal Government.

“We want to note that the provision of welfare packages and security of lives and properties should always top the list of every government. And, we also commiserate with everyone involved in the humanitarian disaster.”
