- …And the elders who campaigned for his second term despite the Governor’s lack of empathy for Ibarapa land
I thought I would leave Governor Makinde with his conscience, provided he still carries one, regarding the state of the Ido/Ibarapa Road.
Sadly, things have gotten worse since I wrote a piece about the situation of the Road some days ago.
As I write this piece, we were receiving reports that commuters have been stranded, not been able to pass through a portion of the Road.
This morning, I saw a video shot by a commuter. The video showed two Trailers, stuck side by side on a portion of the Road, very close to Ido .
With the two trucks blocking passage, no one could move through either to or from Ibadan.
Incidents like that are now very common sites on the Road.
Partially, I thank God that the situation has gotten to a point where not only myself is ” crying wolf” because that was the view of some unofficial mouthpieces of Governor Seyi Makinde who would sit down in their sitting rooms and see El dorados all around them.
Thankfully, Governor Makinde’s El dorado in that axis is becoming a public embarassment to him and perhaps to some of his praise singers, at least for those who are still capable of being ashamed.
Some days ago, an uninformed sympathizer of the Governor said ” just because the Governor didn’t do the Eleyele/ Ido) Eruwa Road doesn’t mean he isn’t doing well.
Perhaps, little did the overzealous fellow know that the said Road is the only access between Ibarapa Land and the state Capital and that Ibarapa is so important to Oyo state in the areas of Agriculture and food production.
The importance of Ibarapa Land in that regard was reinforced when the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, as Premier of the Western Region, sited one of the Farm Settlements in Eruwa, the old capital of Ibarapa Local Government.
For the purpose of arguments, I don’t know where the fellow saw the manifestations of wonderland even when you look at the state of access Roads in the state capital and consider the debts profile of Oyo state and the 33 Local Governments under Governor Makinde.
These days, you encounter all manner of irritants who displayed crass ignorance just because they want to impress the Governor.
Now, to the issue at hand.
At this point, I think it is high time we called out sons and daughters of Ibarapa who go about with cosmetic beards, and designer flowing Agbada gowns claiming to be Party Leaders, Speaker, Commissioners and what have you.
All of them should be ashamed of themselves.
Already, the roads within our towns and Communities in Ibarapa have become disasters
The rains have washed off many culverts linking our farms and villages to the towns.
Now, you want to force residents of Ibarapa to go to Ibadan either through Abeokuta or Iseyin?
The promise to build a Mini Stadium in Igboora has not been fulfilled.
The promise to upgrade Eruwa Farm Settlement is dead.
Activities at the Local Governments level are in commatose.
Now, it is obvious, what they say, that none of you is bold enough to speak up to the Governor.
If you’re appointed in the capacity of a hawk, you should at least be able to kill chickens. ( Bi won ba fi eeyan joye Awodi, o saa ye ko le gbe Adire).
As for the Elders who facilitated the reelection of Debo and Governor Makinde despite the fact that there was no basis to reinforce such failures, the ball is now in your court.
Are you happy now? The towns are disintegrating on a daily basis.
We started warning you right from the day Auxiliary led thugs to kill four individuals in Eruwa in 2021 and Governor Makinde refused to acknowledge the disaster his ally visited on the Local Government let alone condole with the Community . We told you that the Governor holds Ibarapa in disdain but one was waxing the lyrics of ” Ori Okere koko lawo”.
Now, your beloved Governor is taking Ibarapa Land back to Egypt. Are you happy?
Shouldn’t you go meet him wherever you were meeting him when you wanted to plot his second term to demand that he keeps the promises you said he made to you?
Or he is no longer picking your calls as he oftens do to people who are not smart enough to see that he doesn’t keep promises?
Or, you did all you did just for Debo to secure a second term and be returned as Speaker?
Posterity will never forget this period and the characters who brought it upon us.
Before I round up, I must say that I expect little or nothing as a change of attitude from the Governor.
His utterances a few days ago at Saki is a pointer enough to how he thinks.
I however wish to remind him that with every passing day, his tenure is winding up.
Whatever secrets he is sitting on regarding the Road in question shall be exposed in due course.
Some of us do not forget things easily.
You were the one who said that you caught some thieves who embezzled the money earmarked for the rehabilitation of the Road by the late former Governor Ajimobi.
Who are the thieves? Where are they today?
You said you would collect every last Kobo of the money embezzled by the thieves you claimed to have caught.
Where is the money?
Why would Ibarapa Land suffer for the dirty Politics you played with some people who are not from Ibarapa?
No matter what happens. Ibarapa will survive the shenanigans and we will live long to see the end of all this. It will be interesting to see those who would join the league of Governors jumping fences all about.
I had rounded up this piece when I got information that the Governor and the Speaker also got stuck on the Road this evening around 5:20pm.
God is wonderful! Perhaps, now that he has tasted a dose from his poison, he will know how bitter it is.
