The Fedegbo ruling house residence at the Baale Adeoye compound has protested against the nomination and installation process of Chief Emmanuel Oyedepo Osuolale, from Otaobola ruling house as the new Baale of Fedegbo.
The decision was arrived at a press conference organised by the ruling houses at the Baale Adeoye compound, Igboora, on Saturday 14th December 2024.
Fedegbo ruling house consisting of the Kudaisi, Ajayi, Olabiyi, Adesokan, Adekanbi and Oladokun lineages of the Fedegbo ruling house.
Speaking on behalf of the ruling house, the spokesperson, Prince Azeez Saubana Adegbenjo challenged the process which he described as a ‘denial of birthright’.
According to Azeez, “We are confused about this turn of events. Historically, Fedegbo was founded by Akiitan, who hailed from Fedegbo, in Ogbomoso. Fedegbo still exists in the current Oriire Local Government.
“Akiitan was a Prince of Oba Odumegun. Akiitan left Fedegbo Ogbomoso due to chieftaincy tussle as Oba Odumegun begets many male children. Akiitan left and founded the current Fedegbo Igboora. Akiitan begets three children : Akinrumi, Akinyemi and Abiikanlu (the only female child).
Akinyemi gave birth to Ojo Olukotun who gave birth to 6 children that constituted the current Fedegbo ruling house. Baale of Fedegbo has since inception been rotating amongst the 6 ruling houses till date.
After the death of the last Baale of Fedegbo, the 6 ruling houses met as custom demands and nominated Prince Ahmed Oladimeji Akanbi as our consensus candidate for the vacant stool. We forwarded our nomination to the Olu of Igboora, Oba Jimoh Titiloye for approval and installation. To our surprise, kabiesi told us there has been a nomination before our own, we were shocked as this has never happened in our history.
“We objected to this, and were invited to the palace. Both parties narrated our histories, but kabiesi insisted he has interest in the other side, Otaobola. Otaobola family has never reigned as Baale of Fedegbo. Even their candidate hails from Eruwa.
“Ojo Olukotun only assisted Igboora to win a war and was given a wife as compensation. This was the genesis of today’s problem because the marriage gave birth to Baale Ajayi. How can Ajayi claim ownership of Fedegbo?”
Corroborating the statement, Sobaloju of Fedegbo village, Chief Rauf Adeoye Oladokun said there has never been another ruling house in Fedegbo aside from the 6 ruling houses. According to him :” Otaobola is unknown to us”.
