Constituent Asks Governor Makinde Not to Make Ojedokun Consensus Candidate
Residents of Ibarapa Central/North has written an open letter to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde and the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the state not to nominate Hon. Peter Gbadegesin Ojedokun as its consensus house of assembly candidate to represent the Constituency in the 2023 election.
The open letter which was sent to SpyGist Media reads in part;
AN OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR SEYI MAKINDE: We Decries Hon. Peter Gbadegesin As Consensus Candidate, Let’s Go For Primaries.
It has become imperative for us to express our gratitude to you, sir, for the unprecedented infrastructural developments that Oyo State has witnessed since you took over the affairs of Oyo State. We are always praying for your success.
As the 2023 election approaches, we are aware of a movement within our party to select Hon. Peter Ojedokun, the incumbent lawmaker representing Ibarapa Central/North constituency in the state assembly, as a consensus candidate at the same level. Your Excellency Sir, we have to let you know that such action is uncalled for and has the potential to knock the PDP to its knees in the constituency.
This is because Hon. Peter Gbadegesin has become unsellable. Many energetic and marketable aspirants in the constituency have stated their interest in running for the same level; why not hold primaries instead of imposing a candidate who is no longer relevant to the people of the constituency?
Your Excellency Sir, is there any way to sell a candidate who is no longer relevant to his people? People are unwilling to support the lawmaker for re-election for no other reason than that he has woefully failed to deliver as a representative.
It’s high time we let you know that the lawmaker’s refusal to publish his stewardship report has gotten on our nerves, we have asked it on multiple occasions, all to no avail. If Hon. Peter Ojedokun wishes to be re-elected, Your Excellency Sir, please request that he make his stewardship account available to his constituents.
Poorly on a test, a group in the region recently conducted an online poll where people were asked to rate the performance of the lawmaker since he assumed office, it’s with a very big shame to inform you, sir, that 90 percent of the voters described Hon. Peter Ojedokun’s performance as very poor. This is a strong indication that the lawmaker is unwanted by the majority of the people of his constituency.
On a final note, Your Excellency Sir, the imposition of Hon. Peter Ojedokun is inimical to the party’s progress in our constituency, and the party may suffer a significant loss if the incumbent lawmaker is granted the opportunity to run again. We call for primaries, not consensus.
While we strongly believe in your leadership acumen, we hope that this letter is given utmost consideration by retracing the step to back the lawmaker to run for re-election.
Thanks and God bless you, Your Excellency.
