AOPE: Council Chairman, Ogundiran Economical With Truth, JAC Fires Back

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa has reacted to the position of the Chairman Governing Council of the institution, Prof. Samuel Ogundiran.

Ogundiran had on Monday released a press statement to express his position on the state of the institution and the issues between the staffs union.

The union has therefore release their own side of the story on Tuesday, the press release which reads in part;

PRESS RELEASE

TRUE STORY OF ATROCITIES OF PROFESSOR SAMUEL OGUNWALE OGUNDIRAN THE GOVERNING COUNCIL CHAIRMAN, ADESEUN OGUNDOYIN POLYTECHNIC, ERUWA (AOPE) RELEASED BY JAC OF THE INSTITUTION

The Joint Action Committee of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa (AOPE) Oyo State wish to tell the true story of the atrocities of Prof. Samuel Ogunwale Ogundiran in our Institution for record purpose.

Our Unions have started writing to His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde – Governor of Oyo State, the Honourable Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology since September 2021. The Unions have written up to seven (7) letters dated 2nd September, 15th October, 1st November, 2021, 7th January, 18th February, 3rd and 7th  March, 2022 on the atrocities and misconducts of Prof. Samuel Ogundiran.

The first letter of the Union titled “Letter of Renege and Vote of No Confidence on Prof. Samuel Ogunwale Ogundiran” was written on 2nd September, 2021 and directed to His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde.  On 15th October, 2021 a Reminder was written on the same issue through the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin.

Based on the above, the Hon. Commissioner of Education on 25th January, 2022 invited the Unions and the Governing Council for a meeting in which Unions presented all the allegations against Prof. Samuel Ogunwale Ogundiran as contained in our letters to his face and Council members. When he was asked to respond he was sober, speechless and remorseful.

The response of Prof. Ogundiran as contained in the press briefing of Monday, 21st March 2022 on the industrial action embarked upon by the SSANIP and NASU of AOPE on his immediate removal is IMMATERIAL because none of the allegations leveled against him in the Unions’ letters was addressed.  Some of the allegations written in the Unions’ letters are Usurpation of power, Abuse of Office, Financial Recklessness, Act of Extortion, among others. Prof. Ogundiran deliberately dogged these allegations that made the Unions to call for his removal.

Prof. Ogundiran was economical with the truth on the issue of demotion in his press briefing delivered on Monday, 21st March, 2022. The fact is that Prof. Ogundiran borrowed money (Five Hundred and thirty-six Thousand Five Hundred Naira – N536,500.00) from the  person demoted – Mrs. Opakunle, M. O while she was serving as his Secretary since 2020.  His refusal to pay the money borrowed since 2020 made Mrs. Opakunle to report the case to Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) which prompted Prof. Ogundiran to pay One Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira (N160,000) while the balance of Three Hundred and Seventy-six Thousand Five Hundred Naira (N376,500) remained unpaid till today.  This is the beginning of the trouble/demotion saga between Mrs. Opakunle, Council Chairman – Prof. Ogundiran and the Management of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa.

In the submission of Prof. Samuel Ogunwale Ogundiran that ‘conversion/promotion of Mrs. M. O. Opakunle was erroneously granted from Chief Executive Officer (13) to Principal Assistant Registrar was untrue.  This promotion/conversion/upgrading was done by the Appointment and Promotion Committee (A & P) during 2020 Promotion Exercise where the Council members, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance representatives were present and 2013 Criteria for Promotion were duly followed.  This 2013 Criteria for Promotion of Executive Cadre at the Registry Department were altered to be Chief Executive Officer 13 instead of 14 by the erstwhile Head of Registry while other Departments were not but immediately the truth was unveiled, the Governing Council which was presided by Prof. Ogundiran ratified it for use hence the A & P Committee normalized the level of

Executive at the Registry Department in line with others during 2020 Promotion Exercise even though during the 2021 promotion exercise, A & P still make use of the altered Criteria for Promotion for Registry Executive staff members.

On the issue of sacking of four part-time workers in the Institution, the Unions have no concern on this so much but the claim of Prof. Ogundiran in his press briefing that the appointments of four part-time were illegal was untrue.  We wish to state that Prof. Ogundiran approved the appointments of the four part-time staff.  That Mr. Funsho Adeseun Tititloye was illegally appointed – the man who was his driver for months – is nothing, but mischief.  And that Com. Titiloye, Joseph was leading the Union industrial action because of the sack of his brother in February 25, 2022 was baseless and unreasonable. Com. Titiloye, Joseph as we known is a dependable and trustworthy Union leader.

As contained in our letters: below are the view notable atrocities of Prof. Samuel Ogunwale Ogundiran as the Council Chairman of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa.

1. Usurpation of Power
In terms of administration of the Institution, Prof. Ogundiran has hijacked the administration from the management.  He has turned himself to be Chief Executive of the Institution moving from one  Federal Government agency to another (e.g. TETFUND, NBTE, NYSC, ETF, etc) which is an aberration to the Polytechnics edit.

2. Abuse of Office
It is obvious that this self-centered, fraudulent and evil Governing Council Chairman – Prof. Ogundiran not only poises to cause crisis, he also determines to drag/ruin the resuscitated image of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, the town, the sitting Government, and the entire ruling party of the day in the mud.  He imposed himself as Chairman of some of sub-Council Committees in which members ought to be Chairman (e.g. Finance and General Purpose, Project Planning and Implementation, Tender Board Committees, etc,) for personal gains

During the accreditation exercise in December, 2020, he imposed his daughter and some other people without relevant qualifications on the Management to be used for accreditation and mandated management to pay them including those that did not surface while many hired relevant and qualified officers are yet to be paid till now.

As if this is not enough, Prof. Ogundiran in his unethical behavior and characteristic manner invited Polaris Bank Eruwa as the Principal Launcher during his 55th birthday, thanksgiving of his Professorial achievement and book launch (this is an aberration to the Council edit).
He even connived with the Management to unlawfully stopped a staff salary for good three (3) months.

3. Financial Recklessness
Prof. Ogundiran is fond of draining the Institution’s purse through series of un-official claims.  He uses to bringing different receipts to the Institution to claim money, thousands of naira (apart from his legitimate allowances) for repair and fuelling of vehicles used for personal outings and engagements.  Management members in several occasions had contributed within themselves for him because of these unlawful claims.  He has even requested for unexecuted contract that the Management led by Mr. Adejumo, P. O will retire, the Management rejected this and later contributed money for him.

Prof. Ogundiran threatened the Management to buy him an official car or they lose their positions while he kept one HYUDAI 2016 model Saloon Car at his custody.  He was forcing the Management to board the HYUDAI Car for him (Platinum Consultant is a living witness).  He threatened them to the extent that he alleged them of embezzlement and stealing.  He even instigated people to write petition against them so that he would use the avenue to un-seat the Adejumo and his team members so as to enthrone the highest bidder.

4. Act of Extortion
Prof. Ogundiran has insatiable drive for pecuniary gains.  For instance he is in the habit of chasing the Institution’s procurement officers, Directors and other Head of Departments who are in charge of procuring consumables for students’ practicals demanding for kick-backs from them.

5. Master of Illegalities
Prof. Ogundiran is very good at illegal acts; as evident in many of his acts in relating with the Oyo State Platinum Consultant and the Institution Principal Officers as narrated above.  For instance in order to satisfy his uncontrollable thirst for money, he introduced Federal Polytechnic Act into the tenure of the acting Management of the Institution which is not yet domesticated in the Oyo State and not operational in the sister Polytechnics in the State.  And any time Prof Ogundiran is talking about illegality in the Institution the public should know that he is the initiator, originator and evil master of any illegality in our academic system.  All to pave way for his highest bidder to come on board.

For example some staff members were indicted for financial misappropriation during the December, 2020 and February, 2021 Accreditation exercises. And according to the Council Committee reports, those people were mandated to refund the misappropriated funds but they were shielded by Prof. Ogundiran and his illegally and highest bidder present Acting Management chose them as Head of Departments.

Also he illegally gave permanent appointment to Mr. Ranti Olawuyi without the approval of the Oyo State Government.

All the achievements (Accreditation and NYSC mobilization) that Prof. Ogundiran was boasting in his press briefing were made possible by the enviable management qualities by Mr. Peter O. Adejumo and his team with the support of all well-meaning members of staff.

Obviously, the evil intents of Prof. Ogundiran are hunting him.  As a failed Council Chairman of the Institution he is confused.  He has never stepped on to the soil of the Institution since March, 2021.  What is he governing?

With the present condition of the Institution, (staff divided without peace and harmony) a continued stay in office of Prof. Samuel Ogunwale Ogundiran is a great dis-service to the Institution and good people of Oyo State because he has betrayed the trust of the Government of Oyo State and is evident that with his actions is anti-government and pure opposition party of the sitting government working tirelessly to discredit the good works of Engr. Seyi Makinde and the ruling party so as to thwart every move to return the God-sent Governor – Engr. Seyi Makinde come 2023.

Signed
